“Tandanya means ‘place of the red kangaraoo’ in the language of Adelaide’s First Nations people, the Kaurna. I’m not sure if I knew that back in 1995. The language is now slowly growing - here are some other Kaurna words; ‘tarnda’ is a male red kangaroo,  ‘kurlo’ a female red kangaroo. ‘Karrawirra parri’ is the name for the River Torrens, which means redgum-forest river.”
